Conference
The
‘New Eyes’ conference was held
at Culm Pyne Barton near Hemyock on Friday 11th November and
Friday 18th November. It explored the use of digital
technology in artistic practice from the perspective of
artists and craftspeople that use both traditional and new
media. It was aimed at all
those interested in the arts that want to learn new skills or
increase their knowledge of new technologies.
Guest speakers included international land artist Chris
Drury, Nic Millington from the Rural
Media Company, digital artist Duncan Speakman, Somerset
Film and Video as well as Michael
Fairfax, Neroche/Ridge Route lead artist and Simon
Lee Dicker, lead artist for the Parrett Trail.
It was hoped that the conference would be the catalyst that
inspires high quality applications for commissions,
identifies members of the community who are not artists or
makers but would like to try their hand at working with
digital media, and learn new creative and technological
skills, as well as providing opportunities for meeting other
creative people, sharing ideas, networking and so on.
